My two-year-old is at a stage where she likes to be with me all the time. I’m sure this will fade and I’ll miss the days of her wanting to be in my arms while I’m cooking dinner, feeding her sister, vacuuming the floor – you name it. But until then, I’m having to get creative with how I encourage her to walk instead of being held in moments when I literally don’t have enough arms.
I’ve found by simply asking her to join me in my task she finds great joy. Asking, “Cameron do you want to walk to the bedroom with me?” immediately elicits a reaction and a hop in her step. Following up with, “Lead the way!” keeps her on her toes and out of my arms as she prances down the hallway to the bedroom.
Who knew it was this simple, invite her along and follow her lead.
When we think about the Lord’s presence it can become a lot to process. But, if we simplify the idea of “living in His presence” as simply inviting Him along and following His lead a complex idea becomes part of our everyday moments.
When we invite the Lord in, scripture tells us we will experience “fullness of joy” and notice there is no exclusion list here. Scripture doesn’t say, except at the playground or in the laundry room.
When was the last time you invited the Lord to join in and lead your everyday moments?
Knowing how much joy it brings my daughter when I ask her to come alongside me and lead the way – I can easily picture how much joy it brings the King of Kings, my Creator, the one who loves me with an everlasting love when I invite Him along and follow His lead. Pure joy.
